Miss, Mrs. and Teen India New England Winners Announced

ANDOVER, MA—Anita Ganesan, a trained Carnatic vocalist who loves kickboxing in her free time, was crowned Miss India New England 2015 at the regional Miss India USA pageant held on Sunday in Andover, MA.

“Words cannot describe the feeling. I am beyond honored and humbled to continue on as the next Miss India New England,” Ganesan told INDIA New England News after winning the crown. At the 2014 Miss India New England pageant, Ganesan had won Miss Talented title.

Mrs. India New England 2015 title went to Radhika Trehan. Shreya Patel Ranganarayan won Miss India New England Teen 2015.

Ganesan will now go to Miss India USA competition. The winner from Miss India USA will go to compete in Miss India World Wide.

“Yes I am and I intend on bringing the Miss India USA crown back to New England,” Ganeshan said. “It will be held on Dec 6th 2015 in Edison, New Jersey.”

Ganesan spent her college years majoring in electrical and computer systems engineering, devoting her free time to improv and envisioning the moment she could fully pursue acting as a career, according to her website. She has landed several roles in dozens of commercials, industrials, print advertisements, short films and indie films.

In 2014, Ganesan became a top 20 finalist in the national TentSquare Monologue challenge, beating over 240 contestants. In addition, her love of dance and professional training of Bharatanatyam and Bollywood style Indian dance won her the title of Miss India New England Miss Talented.

Trehan, who moved to the United States about 5 years ago and won Mrs. India New England 2015 title, is not new to the pageant world.

“I won first runner up at the Miss Mumbai Pageant and the 2nd runner runner up Miss Indo-American title for the Indo-American Society in 2003 in Mumbai,” Trehan told INDIA New England News. “I am very honored, and feeling blessed to have won the Mrs. India New England Pageant 2015. I am looking forward to the nationals this weekend and to hopefully bring home the crown.”

Trehan holds a Masters in Human Resource Management from Canada and is currently working as a Corporate Talent Acquisition Partner with an IT company.

Ranganarayan, who at an young age of 15 has already completed a half marathon and won Miss India New England Teen 2015 title, said she was a very shy girl a few years ago.

“Because two years ago I was a shy girl sitting in a corner and this platform helped me to transform myself,” Ranganarayan said. “My next goal is to proudly represent New England at the nationals and do my best to win there as well. Winning this crown for me is not a destination but a beginning of a new phase in my life to motivate and inspire other girls from the Indian-American community to pursue their passion and believe in themselves.”

Here is the list of runner-ups in the three main categories:

Miss India New England runner-up: Aishwarya Balaji.

Mrs. India New England runner-up: Shaila Verma.

Miss India Teen New England: Akila Narayanan.

 

Other title winners are:

Miss Viewer’s Choic: Aishwarya Balaji.

Miss Teen Viewer’s Choice: Sahaja Surapaneni.

Mrs. Viewer’s Choice: Shaila Verma.

Miss Talented: Rachana Talati.

Miss Teen Talented: Anika Talwar.

“The three categories were Miss (18 to 27yrs); Teen (13 to 17yrs); Mrs. India. Miss and Teen competed in evening gown, ethnic dress and talent round. Then finalists moved to on-stage question. Mrs. India contest had 3 rounds of ethnic dress, evening gown and on-stage question,” said Ruchika Arora, director of the India New England pageant. “It was truly a unique celebration of culture and surely a moment to be proud of Indian-American heritage.”

Arora said all winners will proceed to Miss India USA-2015 to be held at Royal Albert’s palace in New Jersey during a 3-day long national pageant.
