BURLINGTON, MA—The Indian Medical Association of New England, known as IMANE, elected a new executive committee, a new board of trustees and a new president for 2016 on Saturday at IMANE’s annual gala in Burlington, MA. Dr. Sapna Aggarwal, was sworn in as the organization’s new president. Dr. Sameer Kapasi was elected IMANE’s President-Elect, who will become the organization’s president in 2017.
Dr. Aggarwal replaces Dr. Seema Arora as president. The new committee and the board assume office on Jan. 1, 2016.
Here are the members of the new executive committee of IMANE:

Chairman of Nominating Committee: Dr. Devila Shah
AAPI Region 7 Representative: Dr. Seema Arora.
“I stand here honored and humbled to have been chosen as IMANE’S President. I accept this privilege with utmost respect and humility. I commit to executing its responsibilities with utmost passion and sincerity,” Dr. Aggarwal told the audience. “IMANE has grown over the years through vision of each president. It is my goal to continue upon their successes with the help of my team and all IMANE members.”
Outgoing President Dr. Arora highlighted IMANE activities in 2015. “I take pride in saying that this year membership was on the highest roll ever and there was a hike in IMANE funds as a result of these fundraisers, sponsorships, educational, community service, networking events as well as outreach and new alliances in the community,” Dr. Arora said.
Dr. Nahid Bhadelia, Director of Infection at Boston University, INDIA New England Woman of the year 2016 and a frontline physician for providing care to Ebola patients in Sierra Leone with World Health Organization, gave a detailed talk on Ebola patients. Kay Khan, State Representative, Massachusetts House of Representatives, was the honorable guest.
“It is an honor for me to serve as chair of board of trustees of IMANE in 2016,” said Dr. Shah. I am deeply committed to working towards financial stability of IMANE so that we can continue our educational and community events now and in future. I am looking forward to working with the new executive committee.”
The evening concluded with an awards ceremony and a fashion show and live music played by New England’s Bollywood band Din Check.
